ShixxNOTE note options 📨

In this post I will show you in new video what can you do with ShixxNOTE program note. With right mouse click on desired note you will get "Note menu". From there you can format note text, change note theme, note color, note font, set note expiration or note alarm, send note to others, roll up note to title, change note title, save note as picture JPG or BMP, export note to *.shx file. But best option for me is to send colorfull note to your colleagues which also have ShixxNOTE installed. When you click on Send note to other option in note menu you will get "Send note to ..." dialog. On left side you have network neighborhood list. This list is populated on program start in separated thread. It scans your network for all computers in your LAN. You can right mouse click on every computer in network neighborhood list and you will get option to read IP address of the computer you've selected. On right you have recipient's list. Here you can add computer name, IP address or email address. If you add computer which does not have ShixxNOTE installed, don't worry program will try to send note and if doesn't receive response on port 2000 then ShixxNOTE will use Windows Messaging service. It will use MSG command. So that recipient will receive dialog with note plain text. After recipient get note it will hear sound and note will be shown in front of every dialog. Received note will have in note menu option "Reply to SENDER" so you can write something om received note and reply with note to sender. Office course if sender did't send Anonymous note. Then you will not know who send you the note. This is cool if you want to hide yourself. 😃

In this video you can see how easy is to send note to others. I've sent note to myself in video and then replied back to myself. Right mouse click on a note and from "note menu" you select "Send note to" - "Others...". They you will get "Send note to" dialog where you have two lists. In one list you can see all computers in your network neighborhood and in right list you add note recipients. Also you can add IP address or email address ShixxNOTE program will send notes directly to entered IP address or if you add email than your program will check for your default client and will run send mail for example in Outlook. Email client will ask you for permission so you must click that you allow ShixxNOTE program to start Outlook client.

Hope you will now send note to more than 10 recipients and make your communication cooler :-)

Before program was checking how many computers in your LAN have ShixxNOTE installed. Because program is always listening on port 2000 for new note data it was easy for me to calculate how many installations my customer did. Now there is no limit and program doesn't scan network to calculate how many computers have ShixxNOTE installed.

I hope you will now register new ShixxNOTE 7.net after 30-days of trial period. Program now works perfectly on all Windows versions including newest Windows 11. ShixxNOTE 7.net is released

Today in March 2022, new program version ShixxNOTE 7.net Build 145 is released. After many years finally program again at the start, scan your network neighborhood for other computers. So now when you go to Send note to others dialog you will see in Network Neighborhood list all computer names which program found. After you select and add computer name it will go to Recipients List. In Recipient List you can add not only computer name, but also you can add IP address or email address. If you have email address in recipients list, program will ask your permission to run you mail client and then will send ShixxNOTE email note which contain note data (note color, title color, formatting, note text, etc.).

As you can see ShixxNOTE 7.net works normally on latest Microsoft Windows 11. Main settings dialog now looks different. To refresh dialog new images are added. From main program menu (right mouse click on program try icon) select “Settings” and you will get General, Default note and Network settings dialog. There you can change how program will behave.

Network settings are important for users who like to send note to others. There you can change main ShixxNOTE 7.net program communication port 2000 to some other. Use this settings carefully. Also you can send note anonymously if you change option Default sent from option in Network settings dialog. After that when note is send recipient will not see from who it is. But recipient will then not able to reply to sender. If you like to fool somebody be anonymous.

Price for registered ShixxNOTE 7.net version is now 24.99 USD. If you buy program you can install program on every Windows computer in your LAN. Then sending and receiving notes to other colleagues in your company for instance is so simple and easy. ShixxNOTE Your network neighborhood list and LAN

Hello,

If you don't see nothing in your network neighborhood list when you try to send note to somebody, then read this post. Probably you have Windows 10 and all necessary updates. Like me. On Windows XP, Windows Seven and also on first edition of Windows 10, that list was always full with names of computers in your LAN. Now today you see nothing. Also you don't see your computer. But if you look below you will see your name of computer. So I decide to share with you how can you send and test sending of note to yourself. I decided to send one note to myself. Here below look on my picture first.

I got nothing in my list Network Neighborhood, but below I can see my computer name is OZREN which will be sender's name after I send note to myself. So I entered that name in text box who to send. Simply wrote my computer name OZREN and pressed enter. Then I got in Note Recipient list my computer. So I got one note to send to myself. You can see I also did right mouse click on my computer name and there I got menu where I select option Show IP address. Voila after that I also got my IP address. So I could enter my computer name or IP address in text box.

After I added myself in note recipient list I clicked on button Send note. And off course I got my desktop sticky notes promptly with sound from my speakers.

You can see that in second picture below:

Do it at your home or office and try to send note to the others by entering theirs computer names or IP addresses. It will work on Windows 10 with all cumulative updates. If you have Windows XP or old great Windows 7 you will have not this problems with empty lists.

Stay home because of world pandemic and wait like me for happy end.

Version 6.net Build 140 May 2018

ShixxNOTE 6.net version Build 140 released in May 2018 is the latest version you can download. There are some minor improvements and few bugs fixed. But cool new (old) feature comes from Windows 10 Update which let setup program to add ShixxNOTE program icon in Start Up list. So now every time you start your Windows program will be also launched. In previous versions of Windows 10 that was normal but then some update disable adding program shortcuts to Start Up folder. So now everything is like before in previous Windows versions.

Second feature is also old but now program is using different command.

When sending note to client which doesn't have ShixxNOTE program installed, program server side will use MSG command to send the message over local network. This feature works only when ShixxNOTE is running on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows Server. Example would be equivalent of writing this command in Command Prompt window:

MSG * /server:TEST-PC "Hello user !!!"

So if computer named TEST-PC doesn't have ShixxNOTE installed it will receive text in message pop out window. If you still use Windows XP or later Windows versions program will then use NET SEND command.

Third new stuff is that now when you finish installation of program and you start it, default note will be created when program is started for a first time automatically.
I hope you will install Trial 30-days version and then after you will register ShixxNOTE 6.net version.

Need help for version 7.net

Hello to all,

I need help from you users to translate one page of text, from English to German, France, Spanish and Italian language. If you do that I would be really happy and soon I would release new multilanguage ShixxNOTE 7.net program version.

Windows Firewall Issue

Hello,

Many times my customers write me after they have purchased program. Common reason is that some computers can send and receive note and some computer(s) can only send or only receive note. I always reply to my customers and write them to make sure that Windows Firewall settings are correct, meaning that ShixxNOTE program have opened default port 2000 for communication. So you can open default port 2000 or gave permission to ShixxNOTE program in Windows Firewall settings. This is always happening because when customer install program on a computer and then start program for the first time, Windows Firewall dialog prompts and they doesn't know what to click on it.

So now I will put Windows Firewall images and what customer or simple 30-days trial user must click when program is installed and started first time on the computer. If you install program on Windows XP then you will get this dialog where you must click on the Unblock button like on an image below.

If you are installing ShixxNOTE on Windows 7 or Windows 10 you will get again Windows Firewall dialog where you must click on Allow Access button like on an image below.

If you do this at the program first start up you will have no problems later with sending or receiving notes.

Make ShixxNOTE icon to appear on the TaskBar

If you have Windows 10 with latest update (I stopped counting how many times I had to update my OS) installed on your computer, than I would like to show you how to make ShixxNOTE icon visible in your taskbar.

Microsoft release update and than you have to uninstall VPN client just to get network That is my example. So now I am scared when I see that new Update is available  But lets just put ShixxNOTE icon always visible.

First you need to right mouse click on taskbar and select Taskbar settings item from menu. That item has this image beside.

After that you will get this image where you have to click on “Select which icons appear on the taskbar”.

Then you only need to set ShixxNOTE icon to On. After that and after every next Windows 10 start up you will see ShixxNOTE icon in the corner

Create new note on Windows 10

Hello,

In my last article I wrote that ShixxNOTE is now Windows 10 Compatible and that you can find it on Windows Store. From Windows Store you can download 30-days trial version and you can also buy 25-Users License for 25.00 USD. If you didn't know that now you know. But there is one problem. When you install app from Windows Store and when you get program icon in your Windows 10 Start Menu you will get only small ShixxNOTE icon in taskbar located near clock. Also after you restart computer you must again start program from Start Menu. Old installation had put ShixxNOTE shortcut in your Start Up menu and you wouldn't notice that ShixxNOTE application is started.

If you install program from Windows Store you can do also everything for 30 days trial period. But on every computer start you must manually start program and click program icon or tile in Windows 10 Start Menu. Here is the picture of my Windows Start menu and ShixxNOTE tile.

Soon I will release on Windows Store new version which will start ShixxNOTE program on computer start up. I will announce that on program ShixxNOTE Program Homepage and here.
But if you had install program from Windows Store or you have install program from program download page and started program setup, I must explain to users how you will create new note.

When you start ShixxNOTE you will see Splash screen and then nothing. But you will get new program icon in your task bar located near the clock. Like on the picture bellow.

Many of my users doesn't know how to create note after they see splash screen they don't notice this small icon. Maybe in new version I will create some welcome default note. But if you want to create note you just need to double click on program icon. Second way to create note is to right mouse click on program icon and then you will get main program menu, from there you simply select option "New note". Here on the picture below you can see some previously created notes and main ShixxNOTE program menu.

I hope now first time users will know how to create note(s) and after that send them across your LAN in your office :-)

Sending email note

Hello,

Many of customers and users of ShixxNOTE 6.net program didn’t send email note. But recently one customer asked me more about sending note via email. So now I decided to write about how to send note via email. If you didn’t know when you open “Send note to” others dialog from note menu you get send note dialog. Program already read your network neighborhood and you can see a list of computer in your LAN in the left list. From that list you can select recipients from your LAN, but also you can enter in a text box above for example some email address like somebody@gmail.com and when you press enter that mail address will be added in note recipients list. Also you will see different icon instead of computer you will see small Outlook Express icon before email address. When you have finished adding recipients then you click on big “Send note” button.

I suppose that you will be asked by Windows Mail or Outlook if you want allow ShixxNOTE program to send email to mail recipients. You must click on button “Allow”. After that your email client will send ShixxNOTE note via email with all data in it and with picture of note as an attachment.

Now recipient will get in his Inbox new ShixxNOTE email message which looks like this picture (my mail client is Outlook).

You can see on both pictures what program sended. All data necessary for note creation and an attachment of note picture. But also you can see in a subject text of the email something like this “ShixxNOTE : Note from Ozren, OZREN-PC” which means that note was sended to you from user Ozren who works on OZREN-PC computer.

Before I had some problems with sending email notes and getting correct user name but now everything is working fine. After you received ShixxNOTE note you can click on ShixxNOTE main menu item “Check for email notes” (check previous posts to see how to get main program menu) and program will search your Inbox for ShixxNOTE program emails and will create exactly the same note as sender have sent to you on your desktop.

I hope you will use this option more now when you know how to send and receive ShixxNOTE email notes.

ShixxNOTE application is on Windows Store

Today I am announcing that ShixxNOTE program is now on Windows Store. If you have Windows 10 just click on the icon of Windows Store or write "Store" in your start menu. After that you will get something like this but some of the text will be on your language.

After that click on ShixxNOTE tile which will be under Applications like on image above. After you click on it you will get all info about ShixxNOTE application and you will be able to install it on your computer. It is full valid 30-days trial version. But now it will be installed from Microsoft Store and 30-days trial period will be checked also by Microsoft Store. Off course you can always click on Buy button :-) Price is shown in your current currency but it is 25 USD but now this is 25-Users License version also. Check the image below to see all I am talking about.



This is the day I was waiting. To show all of my potential customers that you don't have worry when you install program setup from program pages. Because then you get dialog saying that Publisher is Unknown and that you better click on "Don't run" button. You can read about this issue in previous post. Now after ShixxNOTE passed all tests from Microsoft you can download it and install it on your computer running Windows 10 from Windows Store.

ShixxNOTE is Windows 10 Compatible

Last month I did a lot of work with my program ShixxNOTE. I wanted my program to be listed in a Ready For Windows listing and to be Windows 10 compatible. I pay about 20 USD to be Microsoft Developer and I get access to Microsoft Dev Center. I must say that Microsoft support is really great. For my program I got two Microsoft support technicians.

Program one issue was to put ShixxNOTE program on Ready For Windows listing. I got support from Microsoft, his name is James Taylor. He guided me just for this program. I had to put Windows 10 Compatible Support Statement on my program site. So I added one more item in site menu, named it “Documents” and write there statement. I put Windows 10 Compatible Support Statement on my new web page and also I added link to PDF file which also contains same statement.

After I did what James told me to do ShixxNOTE was added to Ready For Windows list. You can see this on picture below. There are two results. One is ShixxNOTE as Desktop app and second is ShixxNOTE as Universal Windows App.

Second program was complex so I got support from Matteo Pagani who is Windows AppConsult Engineer. If I didn’t have him to lead me I would never gain Windows 10 Compatible logo and also made a new package for my program. That package story is long so I will just tell you that you must be patient and read a lot of help documents. I converted my MFC application written in VS C++ 6.0 to new Universal Windows application. That took me a week. Matteo Pagani helped me a lot. So I must say thanks to him. Matteo Pagani wrote me about 10 emails till I finished. Every question I asked he answered me promptly. I had to change my original C++ source code also prepare assets for my new ShixxNOTE package.

On the picture above you can see that ShixxNOTE is Approved for directory and Approved for logo. For me it was a journey. I learned a lot and finally I got Windows 10 Compatible logo. Here is the logo which I picked from few different ones.

ShixxNOTE has been tested to be Windows 10 Compatible. Only Windows 10 Compatible software has passed tests for compatibility on devices running the Windows 10 operating system. Windows 10 Compatible products install without worry and run reliably with Windows 10.

Program was published on DVD by croatian BUG magazine specialized for computers, gadgets and shareware programs. Back then BUG magazine rated my program with 10/10. Windows 10 “More Info” and “Run anyway” button

Again I am writing about installing ShixxNOTE 6.net Build 138 on Windows 10 and first problem which will occur. It will happen after you unzip downloaded ShixxNOTE program zip file and unzip it and then when you click on “ShixxNOTE6netT.exe” program setup file to start setup.

Immediately you will get this screen on your computer from Windows. It say that “Windows SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized application from starting…” and almost 90% of users will click on “Don’t run” button because they trust Microsoft. But if you analyze more that Windows dialog you will see link “More info”. I know that this is annoying. But if you want ShixxNOTE 6.net to run on your computer(s) you must trust me and click on “More info” link. After you click it you will get second dialog from Windows SmartScreen.

Suddenly you will see Application name, Publisher and most important button “Run anyway”which will continue setup of ShixxNOTE 6.net program. Only if you do like this you will be able to install ShixxNOTE 6.net on your computer(s). Please trust me you will not install anything malicious. Before on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 you didn’t have to do this because there was not this annoying screen.

This Windows SmartScreen dialog is appearing only on Windows 10 and because as a developer now you have to pay to Microsoft about 20 USD just to be developer and developer Windows applications. So I did it. And then I have to upload Microsoft version of package to them. But before that they scan your exe file and check if it contains some malicious code. It is OK and my “ShixxNOTE6net.exe” file pass all that. But because I develop ShixxNOTE in Visual C++ not in new one Visual Studio 2015 I am not able to create Microsoft package which only they accept if you want Windows SmartScreen not be seen when you start program setup file. I tried to compile and create release in Visual Studio 2015 from my source code of ShixxNOTE but I got about 10 errors and I can’t build stable release of VS2015 MFC application. I tried to remove those errors and I did remove about 7 of them but final 3 errors are something about manifest and how will VS20015 compile my old Visual C++ source code. Those 3 errors I couldn’t fix. I don’t know how. Because of that now all users who wants to try ShixxNOTE 6.net Trial version 30-days with full functionality must click on “hidden” link “More info” and button “Run anyway” if they want to try ShixxNOTE program

So friends till I figure how to avoid this SmartScreen dialog please click on “More info” and button “Run anyway”. I know I loose more customers because of this but Microsoft is in charge.

New Program Home Page

Before one month finally I decided to create and publish new ShixxNOTE Program Home Page site on same URL: www.shixxnote.com

New web site is ASP.NET web application but I don't need to much of .NET Framework so I just used HTML5, CSS and some JavaScripts to make site cool and refreshing. I also left link to old site but I think soon I will remove it. I hope you like it :-)

Installing program on Windows 10

When you start ShixxNOTE setup file on Windows 10 you will get dialog below saying that "Windows protected your PC". Windows SmartScreen prevent setup to start ?! And also it scares you with this sentence "Running this app might put your PC at risk".  This is not correct. ShixxNOTE setup file is 100% safe and I can assure you that your PC will not be in any risk if you start setup file. Why Microsoft put ShixxNOTE setup file in risk group is because now they only trust recognized apps to run. Which means that app must be checked by Microsoft and be created to pass all theirs validation. This is new thing in Windows 10, before in Windows 7 or Windows XP there was nothing to scare you. If you want to install ShixxNOTE 6.net on your PC you must do the following. Check this images and read the text I wrote in green box :-)

On first dialog you have to click on "More info" link.

 

On second image you have to click on button "Run anyway" and program setup will start. After that you will have ShixxNOTE 6.net installed on your computer :-)

 

I am sorry for this but Microsoft decided that my program setup file is unrecognized. But don't worry my program is 100% safe and if any of you who installed ShixxNOTE 6.net Trial version or Registered version have some problems after installing program please write comment.

Now I am little worried because people belive Microsoft rather than me, Ozren Sirola, ShixxNOTE program author. So now I am loosing my potential customers just because users are affraid or they doesn't know that they must click on "More info" and then "Run anyway" button.

I hope this article and ShixxNOTE reputation (listed on English Wikipedia) will assure you that program is perfectly safe.

ShixxNOTE on Windows 10

After Microsft released new operating system Windows 10 I had to check if ShixxNOTE 6.net is working as usual on it. Answer is YES. But there are some issues. First download of setup file when you got web browser warning, then when you pass this and start installation setup file you will get Windows “Program Compatibility Assistant”. Windows 10 warns you about program that there is no publisher name and ask question if you want to proceed anyway. If you reach this point then everything is OK and you will install ShixxNOTE newest version. Many people are afraid and they click as Microsoft told them and they simply abort installation or download.

I think that Windows 10 is a great OS better than 8.1 and it is cool. So maybe I will have to modify my setup program to be trusted by Microsoft and then write some manifest which will tell Microsoft that ShixxNOTE is program which can be trusted. Never mind maybe one day they will release some update and make this process easier.

After you have installed ShixxNOTE program on your computer with Windows 10 running on it everything works as usual. I received mail that sending note via email is not working. I need to check this problem. But if you set that Outlook is your default email program I think sening notes via email will work.

Try it and you will see that it is better than Windows Sticky notes which doesn’t have anything with communication. Till then use ShixxNOTE program as a stickies and for instant messaging.
